THE ART ISSUE; AUSTRALIAN VOGUE

Beautiful, dark, deep, and divine.
Finally, Australian Vogue pushes its boundaries and produces an eloquent, star studded, and creative arts issue.

"The Magic of Mia"
Cover art by Del Kathryn Barton featuring Mia Wasikowska.

I have noticed the stellar rise of Art and Fashion collaborations for many seasons now and so too have many others. The editor of Australia Vogue, Edwina McCann has said:

“At the Spring/Summer 2014 shows there was no denying the avalanche of ideas that were inspired by art and specifically painting. Karl Lagerfeld turned the Grand Palais in Paris into a gallery with purpose-created installations and paintings… Phoebe Philo’s CĂ©line looks were works of art in themselves, with bold brushstrokes and a nouveau classicism that had us chatting excitedly in the car afterwards about the ways in which she had just shifted fashion forward. And so we returned to Sydney and decided to devote our March issue to great Australian artists, the meaning of art in our lives, and, of course, its intrinsic link with fashion.
On the cover is Mia Wasikowska, the perfect painterly subject for an exciting collaboration between Jillian Davison, Del Kathryn Barton, Emma Summerton and Alice Babidge. The resulting images were nothing short of extraordinary and Vogue talks to Wasikowska about starring in the thoroughly Australian film Tracks and her less than standard route to Hollywood.
Barton says of choosing Wasikowska for the shoot: “She has quite an amazing balance between being very earthy but otherworldly at the same time.”
Also in the issue: An interview with Del Kathryn Barton; legendary John Olsen opens his home to Vogue and sits down with son Tim and daughter Louise as they discuss growing up in arguably one of the most creative households in the country; and Wendy Whitely gives a very personal account of life as an artist, a muse and a wife and a mother. Jillian Davison and Emma Summerton team up again to collaborate with street artist Anthony Lister."

Artist of the moment, Mr Anthony Lister (who is 'repped by the gallery I work at on Sundays, Olsen Irwin) takes center stage inside in the main fashion editorial. It is a typical artist/ muse shoot...model in artists studio... etc etc, but I am just glad they have decided to embrace Australian art.

Bravo, Vogue and Thank you, for making both my vocations cool.
